At Nine Gems we adhere to this grading system innovated by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), but we also oversee diamonds beyond these 4C's. Secondary color shades, nature of inclusions, cut proportions, origin, fluorescence & responsible sourcing are just a few other additional criteria's to name which influences the beauty and value of a Natural Diamond. These details may, or may not be mentioned in standard diamond certification and require high-level expertise to assort.

GRADING OF COLORED GEMSTONES

Unlike Diamonds, Every colored gemstone is unique by nature. Like people, no two colored gemstones are identical, which makes it unfavorable to follow a standard grading system for all colored gems. People have different preferences when it comes to things like art, music, and wine. The same is true of colored gemstones. Ultimately, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Beyond the classification of 4 C's, colored gemstones are also known for their fifth C, Character - which distinguishes them from Diamonds. Every colored gemstone has a characteristic color & clarity. Choosing between the right shades of color requires the eye of an eagle & expertise of an experienced gemologist.
